In order to help the newly-entered Burmese students adapt to Hangzhou, learn about Hangzhou and enrich their students' extracurricular life, on March 30th, our department organized Chinese and Burmese students go to the West Lake to experience the charm of Hangzhou and experience Chinese culture. The event was led by the international student counselor Longzhong Xiao, and 15 Burmese freshmen and their Chinese pair partners participated in the experience.

International students first came to Taiziwan Park to appreciate the blooming tulips. In the intoxicating sea of flowers, international students invited Chinese partners to take photos to leave this precious memories. Then the international students walked to the West Lake. On the Sudi, the international students enjoyed the scenery while communicated with Chinese students, listened to the stories of the West Lake told by the Chinese students, and finally, on the advice of the Chinese students, the students continued to visit the former residence of Su Dongpo. In Su Dongpo former residence, the students appreciated the painting and calligraphy of this one of the most accomplished figures in classical Chinese literature. During the visit, the students constantly asked Su Shi's (also known as Su Dongpo) life stories, and expressed their hope to learn Chinese as soon as possible, and can carefully study Su Dongpo and his poems.

Through this activity, international students have seen the beauty of the West Lake, learned about the many historical stories about the West Lake, experienced Mr. Su Dongpo's unrestrained feelings, and experienced the cultural charm of Hangzhou during the communication. Moreover, this activity also enhanced the friendship between Chinese and Burmese students. Hoped that after this event, international students will adapt to Chinese learning and living environment more quickly and love China and her culture.
